How to Play Pusoy

New to Pusoy or need a refresher? Pick a topic below.

The Basics of Pusoy

Pusoy (also called Filipino Poker or Chinese Poker) is played with a standard 52-card deck by 2 to 4 players. Each player receives 13 cards and must arrange them into three separate hands:

  • Back Hand — 5 cards, must be the strongest hand
  • Middle Hand — 5 cards, must be stronger than the front but weaker than the back
  • Front Hand — 3 cards, must be the weakest of the three

If a player's arrangement violates the strength order (a front hand stronger than the middle, for example), they commit a "foul" and automatically lose all units for that round. Arranging your 13 cards wisely is the heart of Pusoy strategy.

Game Setup

Before each round, every player antes a fixed amount into the pot. At JuanPlus the minimum ante is ₱20 and stakes go up to ₱10,000 per hand depending on the table you choose.

After the ante is placed, all 52 cards are shuffled and dealt face-down — 13 to each player. Players then have a set time to arrange their 13 cards into their three hands. Once all players have locked in their arrangement, hands are revealed simultaneously and compared.

Each hand is compared individually against every other player's corresponding hand. You win a unit for each hand you beat and lose a unit for each hand you lose. The player who wins the most units across all three hand comparisons collects the most money from the pot.

Special Hands & Bonuses

Certain rare hand arrangements earn automatic bonuses regardless of opponents' hands. These vary by table rules at JuanPlus — always check the table info before sitting down.

  • Dragon (13 unique cards): All opponents pay maximum units
  • Full Flush (all same suit): 3x unit bonus vs each player
  • Three Straight Flushes: Automatic win, 3x units
  • 6 Pairs (front+mid+back): 2x unit bonus
  • Three Royal Flushes: Maximum table payout

Why JuanPlus Is the Best Place to Play Pusoy Online in the Philippines

Ask any Filipino who grew up in a regular household and they'll tell you — Pusoy wasn't just a game, it was a social ritual. Christmas Eve, New Year's countdown, the barangay fiesta — there was almost always a Pusoy game happening somewhere. The satisfying weight of 13 cards in your hand, the strategic silence as everyone arranges their hands, and the explosive reaction when a royal flush gets revealed — these are experiences that are deeply familiar to millions of Filipinos.

JuanPlus captures that spirit and brings it online without losing what makes Pusoy special. The platform is fast, reliable, and purpose-built for Filipino players. There's no lag when you're arranging your cards, no confusing foreign interfaces, and no currency conversion headaches — everything is in PHP ₱, and payouts go straight to your GCash or Maya account, usually within 5 minutes of requesting a withdrawal.

One of the best things about playing Pusoy at JuanPlus is the player pool. Because the platform focuses specifically on Filipino players, you're almost always matched with other Pinoy players who understand the game properly, play at a reasonable pace, and don't abuse the clock. This makes for a much more enjoyable experience than playing on international platforms where Pusoy is often just one obscure game among hundreds.

JuanPlus offers three distinct Pusoy variants to keep things fresh. Classic Pusoy for traditionalists, Pusoy Dos for players who want faster, more aggressive rounds, and Capsa Susun for those looking for an international-style challenge with fantasy hand bonuses. Whether you're a grinding regular at the low-stakes tables or a high-roller looking for ₱10,000-per-unit action, JuanPlus has a table that fits your style and budget.

The tournament scene at JuanPlus is where things really get exciting. The monthly JuanPlus Pusoy Championship has a guaranteed prize pool of ₱500,000 — a serious amount of money that draws competitive players from across the Philippines. Beyond the flagship monthly event, there are daily freerolls, hourly Pusoy Dos quick-fire tournaments, and weekly Capsa Susun championships. VIP members get free entry to select tournaments, which is one more reason to level up your JuanPlus account.

The fairness of JuanPlus Pusoy is something that's always worth emphasising. The card dealing system uses certified RNG technology verified by international auditing firms. Every shuffle is as random as a freshly shuffled physical deck — there's no way for any player or the platform to know what cards are coming or manipulate the deal. This is something JuanPlus takes very seriously, because trust is the foundation of any real-money card game.

For new players, JuanPlus offers a Pusoy practice mode where you can learn hand rankings, experiment with different arrangements, and get comfortable with the scoring system without risking any real money. Once you're ready to move to real-money tables, the ₱20 minimum bet makes it easy to start small while you build confidence and find your rhythm.

The JuanPlus mobile experience for Pusoy is particularly well designed. The card arrangement interface is intuitive on touchscreens — you drag and drop cards between your three hands, and the system alerts you immediately if your arrangement violates the strength order before you lock it in. No more accidental fouls due to a hasty click. Whether you're playing on a phablet while commuting on the MRT or on a tablet from the comfort of your sala, the experience is consistently smooth and responsive.

💡 Pusoy Strategy Guide

Sharpen your game with tips from experienced Filipino Pusoy players

Your back hand needs to be your absolute strongest combination — this is non-negotiable. Beginners often spread their strong cards across all three hands to make each one look decent. This is a mistake. Concentrate your best combination in the back hand (a flush, full house, or better), use the remaining cards to make the strongest possible middle hand, and let the front three cards be whatever high cards are left. Winning the back hand consistently is the most reliable path to profitability in Pusoy.

A foul — where your front hand is stronger than your middle, or your middle is stronger than your back — means automatic loss of all units for that round. It's a devastating mistake that can erase a whole session of good play in one hand. Always double-check your arrangement before confirming it. JuanPlus's interface flags potential fouls before you lock in, so take advantage of that warning system. When in doubt, simplify your arrangement to something you're certain is valid.

In multi-player Pusoy, you're comparing hands against multiple opponents simultaneously, so it pays to think about what cards your opponents are likely holding. If you have a pair of Aces in your front hand, that's generally strong — but if multiple opponents put high pairs in their front hands too, the advantage diminishes. Over time, you'll develop a feel for opponent tendencies based on how aggressively or conservatively they arrange their hands. Pay attention and adapt.

Winning all three hands against a single opponent earns you bonus units — usually double the standard payout. When you have a particularly strong hand and believe you can sweep, it may be worth arranging your cards more aggressively to maximise all three hands rather than just protecting the back. The sweep bonus is where big sessions are built. Conversely, if you suspect an opponent has an unusually strong arrangement, sometimes sacrificing one hand to win the other two is the smarter play.

Good bankroll management is the difference between a fun Pusoy session and a frustrating one. Before you sit at any table, decide your maximum session loss — and stick to it. A general rule for Pusoy is to sit down with at least 20 buy-ins worth of your table's minimum stake. This gives you enough cushion to ride out bad variance without going broke on a bad run. Remember: even the best Pusoy players lose some sessions. The goal is to still have chips to play the next one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions from Filipino Pusoy players at JuanPlus

Pusoy Classic is the traditional Filipino variant where each player receives 13 cards and arranges them into three hands (5-5-3) that are compared simultaneously against opponents. Pusoy Dos is a faster, shedding-style game where players take turns playing combinations and the goal is to be the first to get rid of all your cards — with the 2 of spades as the highest card. Classic requires more strategic arrangement thinking; Pusoy Dos is quicker and more about reading the table in real time.

Yes. JuanPlus offers a free practice mode for all Pusoy variants. You can learn hand rankings, experiment with different card arrangements, and get familiar with the scoring system without spending any real money. We highly recommend new players spend at least a few sessions in practice mode before moving to real-money tables — it makes the transition much smoother.

A single round of Classic Pusoy at JuanPlus typically takes 2–4 minutes, depending on how quickly all players arrange their hands. Each player gets a set timer (usually 90 seconds) to arrange their 13 cards. Pusoy Dos rounds move faster — a complete game from deal to finish usually takes 5–8 minutes. This makes JuanPlus Pusoy perfect for squeezing in a quick game during a lunch break or commute.

Absolutely. JuanPlus Pusoy is fully optimised for mobile play on both Android and iOS devices. The card arrangement interface uses drag-and-drop touch gestures that feel natural on a smartphone screen, and the platform will warn you if your arrangement is about to commit a foul before you lock it in. You can play directly from your mobile browser without downloading any separate application.
